Description
I camped about 11 miles away from Bulls Island in a KOA campground. Wish I could recommend it but won't. After setting camp and having supper then enjoying a campfire I went to bed and awoke at 3 AM to drive to the launch site. Almost an hour later 30 or more photographers boarded the ferry which took us to a drop off site where we then hoisted ourselves onto trailers which then towed us to the beach. We were there an hour before sunrise and had plenty of time to search out a good spot. Bulls island is part of the Cape Romaine National Wildlife Refuge. No one is allowed to camp overnight on the island thus sunrise is kind of a rare event for many. These sunrise photography expeditions are timed to coincide with low tide. The refuge itself encompasses about 66000 acres. Aside from the sunrise the island is a mecca for birders, wildlife enthusiasts and just beachcombing enthusiasts looking for shells and sand dollars that you wont find washed up on most tourist beaches. The trip was very well organized by "Coastal Expeditions" from Charleston South Carolina. The different employees we encountered were all friendly and knowledgeable about the area and eager to share their information. Now how interesting is this! Somewhat surreal in fact. Cool shot. Control of the lighting/contrast is excellent for the effect.
