Description
Within the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina is this scenic waterfall. Elk River Falls is a very scenic jewel of nature. Somewhat remote, you will find yourself driving on a dirt road to a parking area. From here you will hike a bit over a typically Appalachian path of thick roots, rocks and boulders. Good portion of the trail is uphill so sturdy footwear is advised. As you near the Falls you will come to where the Elk River pools and then cascades over the edge to a much larger pool below. At this point on the trail, you descend to a rock shelf where you can set up any photo equipment you may have lugged there being careful to find a relatively level and dry spot. The rock shelf is on a slight incline and if wet it can be slippery.
