Description
This scene was photographed while visiting Death Valley California U.S.A very near Stovepipe Wells off of Highway 190. The Mesquite Dunes take their name from the mesquite plant that was once dominant here.
The dunes cover a large area but at their highest they only reach a height of about 100 feet. It is a favorite location for tourists and is best to arrive before dawn and before footprints disturb the scene.
The village of Stovepipe Wells offers lodging, dining, gift shop and a gas station that is usually at least $1.00 cheaper per gallon than it's closest competitors.
Best to gas up here, replenish your water (obviously very important) and grab some souvenirs or snacks before exploring other close by attractions.
