Description
Legend has it that the God known as Coyote to the Paiute Indians was mad at the "Legend People" creatures part man, part animal who squandered the resources of the desert and wouldn't share with other denizens of this arid land. So Coyote being the trickster he was known to be invited the Legend People to a grand feast where they could eat all day long. They dressed in their finest garb and before they could partake of anything Coyote turned them to stone. As it occurred they were standing, sitting, some tried to flee but all were petrified. Their brightly colored clothes are said to be the reason for the many different colors of the hoodoos. The elements of nature have worn away their faces. Another version of this image is in B&W and is titled Ouroboros. More of my work can be seen in my gallery here in FAA for Zion and Surrounding Areas or in my B&W Collection.
